Benefits of oxyfuel in vessel preheating
- Shorter heating cycles for less number of vessels needed
- Economically feasible with higher heating temperature of vessel, thus no need to have too high temperature of the melted steel in the EAF
- Shorter tap-to-tap time, less consumption of EAF electrode and less wear of refractory.
- Simple, compact and low weight installation as compared to airfuel system with recuperator or regenerative solution
Oxyfuel is popular within the steel shops who can rely on powerful, rugged and compact burners when heating ladles, tundishes etc. There is also only 75-80% flue gases due to less fuel and no nitrogen in combustion which makes flue gas ducting simple.
Oxyfuel also results in lowest possible CO2 generation. These installations can today benefit from even more uniform heat distribution and ultra-low NOx emissions by the application of flameless oxyfuel.
This technology is insensitive to ingress air, which is typical in vessel preheating where the lid seldom closes tight. The more uniform heating supports a shorter heating cycles and limits the need for over heating the steel melt in the electric arc furnace.
