Corrosion and Odours in Sewers

Controlling corrosion and odour emissions in sewers

The bacterial degradation process of wastewater passing through sealed pressure pipes rapidly consumes all available oxygen. The resulting anaerobic environment can cause corrosion and generate unpleasant odour emissions in treatment-plant gravity channels and inlet structures.
A corrosion-damaged pressure pipe can be seen on the right.

Our solution
The SOLVOX®-D process injects pure oxygen into wastewater. The volume of oxygen injected is monitored around the clock.

  • Prevention of corrosion in concrete or metal
  • Improved sedimentation during primary clarification
  • Reduced pollution load in biological treatment stage due to preliminary decomposition in pressure pipe

The oxygen injection can be monitored by using an electrical switch box (see picture below).

  • No external power supply necessary
  • No additional chemical additives required (e.g. iron salts to precipitate H2S)
  • No problematic deposits (e.g. iron sulphide sludge during primary clarification)
